The stars were attending the premiere of The Circus Live which was filmed at the man band’s summer show at Wembley Stadium.
The quartet were appearing at the HMV Hammersmith Apollo in west London where the band had appeared in an early show during their first flush of fame in 1992.
Howard Donald told the screaming fans that the filmed performance, which is to be released on Monday, represented “the pinnacle of our achievements”. And then surprised his bandmates by quipping that perhaps it should be “our last”.
Gary Barlow and Mark Owen laughed, while Jason Orange shot back: “You said that years ago mate”.
The band also unveiled a film of acoustic material shot at London’s Abbey Road studios which had not been see before. Owen told fans who had won a competition to attend: “You guys are the very first people in the country to see this.”
A live double CD of the Wembley gig, called The Greatest Day, will be released on November 30 and is tipped to be one of the Christmas best-sellers. The event marked the first time the famed venue has used new cinema screening facilities.
