One Direction New Video Breaks Records

One Direction has been a teen demographic favourite ever since its five members were grouped to form the band after they failed to make the cut as solo performers. The quintet – consisting of Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan – came third in the 2010 X Factor series and secured a £2 million recording contract with Syco – Simon Cowell’s signature record label.

The premiere of One Direction’s debut music video appears to have been strategically released to coincide with the new X Factor series, which began screening in the UK yesterday. The video for ‘What Makes You Beautiful’ was shot in Malibu Beach, Los Angeles, and it features the boys going on a summer road trip, playing in the water and flirting with girls. The video was directed by John Urbano, famed for creating highly editorial commercials for Abercrombie and Converse.
