Muse headlined the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury on Saturday night. The trio has repeatedly been voted Britain’s best live band so expectations among the 100,000-strong crowd were high.
Luckily, Matt Bellamy and co. didn’t disappoint – their epic 18-song set was a cosmic mixture of hits, tracks from The Resistance (their latest album), and their high-drama rendition of Nina Simone ’s Feeling Good, all illuminated by a massive light show.
During the encore they were joined by a surprise guest, U2 guitarist The Edge, for a rousing version of the eighties anthem Where The Streets Have No Name, which ended with a mass crowd singalong.
It wasn’t until the song ended that Bellamy made a low key introduction: “This is our friend The Edge”.
Globe-trotting stadium rockers U2 had been booked to play the headline slot this year, but were forced to cancel when singer Bono injured his back and needed surgery.
This was The Edge’s first appearance at the world famous festival. Previously, the Irish band had maintained they were too big for Glastonbury.
Other Saturday highlights included Pet Shop Boys, Shakira, Editors and The Cribs.
